Thanking him [in 1930] for his news about adapting Erdgeist and Büchse der Pandora [the Wedekind plays that were the sources for Berg's Lulu], discussing the differences between his Moses und Aron and Strindberg's Moses, saying that his main idea [in Moses und Aron] is tied up with his own personality: "Everything I have written has a certain inner likeness to myself," etc.; with the carbon copy of Berg's typewritten reply, dated [Sattendorf] Aug. 13 1930. Saying [in 1931] that Berg should allow no one and nothing to tear him from his work, that one should do everything for one's health, that Schoenberg must renounce cognac and alcohol, offering other aphoristic advice, asking if Berg might come to Barcelona, describing their lodgings and expenses there, suggesting he get the libretto (2/3) of Moses und Aron from Trudi and write when he has read it, but advising him not to show it to anyone else, especially Herr [the name has been obliterated], who is a great gossip and already has some indiscretions on his conscience, etc.
